A welcome to 2018 from RB project manager Ian Mackenzie

Welcome one, welcome all. To our visitors new and old and in fact young and old too. To those running, those thinking about running and those looking to help others get into the most rewarding, exhilarating, occasionally frustrating but above all simplest form of exercise.

At Run Birmingham we believe in keeping things simple and accessible and we hope this new revamped site reflects that. The search for free sessions in your area is now simpler than ever and as always you're guaranteed a warm welcome both from our run leaders and our growing family of runners. I say 'family' because that’s been the vibe of 2017 - from all across the city people have come together to take on all sorts of challenges - from getting off the couch and improving their health with other beginners, to the elation of crossing the finish of the Birmingham International Marathon with the friends who have been there every step of the way.

The New Year brings more of all of this, with a new batch of the hugely popular Couch to 5k sessions, both from the RB team and our long term friends at Active Parks. I'd also like to welcome aboard http://ww.birminghamswifts.co.uk/ and http://birminghamstriders.co.uk/ , local clubs both offering support to beginners free of charge. If you're a club or run leader who'd like to join us, please get in touch.

We're continuing our regular social running, a chance to touch base with us and find out more with the pace as relaxed as you want it.

Exciting times too with new locations in the pipeline for further Great Run Local events in addition to http://www.greatrunlocal.org/events/midlands/birmingham/birmingham-ley-hill-5k and http://www.greatrunlocal.org/events/midlands/birmingham/the-vale-birmingham-5k

For my part I'm easing into 2018 with this https://www.mind.org.uk/get-involved/donate-or-fundraise/take-on-an-active-challenge/run-for-mind/red-january/ a great way to raise awareness and celebrate the way that running can benefit so much more than the physical. Check out https://www.facebook.com/runandtalkcannonhill/ for more of this, a great chance for a post-parkrun wind down thanks to volunteers from Bournville Harriers and Kings Heath Running Club.

There's honestly so much going on I can't fit it all in.

If you're not running yet, but thinking about it, come and take your first steps with us. Running with our ever growing family is free, supportive, welcoming and inclusive - just the way it should be.

And it's ALWAYS OK to walk.

See you out there

Ian
